cam090408_pathetic_newsCOL2.jpgI happen to agree with Senator Obama about family being off-limits. So imagine my surprise when I picked up the September 3 editon of the Globe and Mail and read what appeared to be page after page of Sarah Palin coverage with more references to her family than I care to relate.

What the hell happened to real journalism and when did the Globe and Mail become a shrill liberal rag? It occurred to me while I reading utter trash, that I had read almost the exact same tripe in the New York Times. Derivative? I don’t know, but it sure looked suspicious.

Of course, I’m using the Globe as an example here and to be honest I drew my cartoon before reading yesterday’s edition. The Globe is just following the same big-city mantra that smacks of dismissive smugness regarding anything coming out of a rural area, such as Alaska.

The fact of the matter is, Governor Palin is everything these people hate and mock — a right-wing, pro-life, gun-totting Christian from a small town. In their minds’ eye, they picture her living in a trailer park with moose grazing on her front lawn and mountains in the background. Imagine their glee when they discovered her 17-year-old daughter was pregnant out of wedlock and that the father is an 18-year-old hockey player who admits to being a redneck on his MySpace page. I can imagine all the Starbucks coffee that spewed out of their collective mouths when they read that tidbit. Christmas came early.

So here we go — the same condescending nudge-nudge, wink-wink stuff we’ve seen before. Here’s a message for all you elitists fluttering around big city newspaper editorial offices and other media outlets:

Get a life.
